Lineage and Transmission: The Shangpa Mastersregister2

6 Wednesday Evenings, April 19 – May 24, 2017; 7:00-8:30pm

“Without lineage there is no Buddhism.  Buddhism is lineage.”

Tai Situ

It is through lineage and transmission that we come to have a direct experience of our potential to be free of the confusion and ignorance which perpetuates so much suffering for ourselves.  The lineage and the teacher is the actual catalyst which illuminates the path and leads us to the freedom of resting in our true nature.  Through this relationship, our habit patterns and ego fixations dissolve, our mind softens and opens and daily challenges are navigated with more ease.  It is through lineage and transmission that Buddhism becomes alive with the awakened presence and rich dynamism that has helped so many become enlightened.

In this class we will explore the life stories, teachings and songs of realization of the Illustrious Shangpa Kagyu Lineage.  These songs of realization spontaneously arose from the enlightenment of these masters.  They not only offer us instruction, advice, and even humor but are a precious vehicle for the transmission of their awakened state.
