Mahamudra: Transforming and Liberating Emotions

Four day retreat with Lama Palden

Thursday – Sunday, February 1 – 4, 2018  10:00am-5:00pm daily; will end at 4pm on Sunday.

The true nature of our emotions is primordial wisdom.

This small, intimate retreat will focus on the transformation of emotions into their native state – primordial wisdom, the corresponding energies of the dakinis and the five wisdoms. We will work with our raw emotions with both the skillful means of tantra and the liberating Mahamudra. All are welcome.

The challenge with emotions is that they can be so vivid, clear and strong that we believe they’re real, when really all they are is an experience in our awareness. Once we see that they’re just our experience, we can meet them in whatever way we choose. We can step back and meet them with loving kindness. In mahamudra, we inquire into them with awareness, and then the strength of the emotions can actually help us gain concentration.

– Lama Palden

The path of Mahamudra meditation provides a precise, graduated process for coming to the realization of the true nature of mind & reality. The retreat will combine sitting meditation with teaching, discussion and inquiry.

Beginning with shamatha (Tib: shiné) meditation, the mind is brought to stability. Then in vipassana (Tib: lhaktong) meditation, the nature of our experience is examined and its true, nondual nature ultimately recognized and actualized.  Actual Mahamudra practice joins concentration and realization, allowing us to rest in the primordial purity of true nature and in which we clearly can know phenomena as self liberating.

Participants’ meditation practice will be closely followed by Lama Palden. Songs from the great Mahamudra masters bring joy and facilitate the integration of deep truth into our streams of being.
