All appearances are an equality of appearance emptiness

Each and every sound is an equality of sound and emptiness

Feelings, all of these, are an equality of bliss and emptiness

So, rest then evenly in the equality, free of thoughts’ complexity

Go about the city, and do it like this, be open, spacious and relaxed

Resting evenly in the equality free of all complexity.

Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche

When habitually resting in a dualistic perspective, we differentiate all that we experience into categories of pleasant, unpleasant, and neutral. Once this differentiation has taken place, the aggregates of perception and mental formations instantly arise and we find ourselves on the path that inevitably leads to ours hearts and minds being tossed about by continuous waves of praise & blame, gain & loss, pleasure & pain, fame & disrepute; the eight worldly dharmas.

The teachings of the Prajnaparamita Sutra offer a sure path to liberation from this daily samsaric experience. In the Prajnaparamita Sutra, we learn that our desire for the pleasant, our aversion to the unpleasant, and our bewilderment regarding the neutral, as well as all afflictions are perfectly pure. We learn that the entirety of all phenomena is, in fact, perfectly pure. All that we experience arises from our mind and when directly looked at, we recognize that our mind is none other than Awakened Mind, emptiness and clarity inseparable.

As we walk the bodhisattva path, it is essential that we begin to directly experience the Ultimate Truth of perfect purity and the Relative Truth of duality as arising simultaneously. This will allow us to manifest awakened qualities in our daily life and to face injustice, ignorance, and the deep pain and suffering of these times with unbounded hearts.

In this class series, we will explore these teachings through meditation, teachings sourced in part from the Prajnaparamita Sutra and Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso’s Sun of Wisdom, as well as extended periods of chanting of the Verses of Perfect and Complete Purity to help us cut-through the well-traveled path of habitual thinking.
