Spiritual Activism: Exploring what’s yours to do

A day of meditation, reflective writing and deep listening

with Jane Brunette

Sunday, March 25th, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Whether you’re a fiery activist or a quiet contemplative, many of us feel an increased sense of urgency to act on behalf of our values in the public sphere. But with so many urgent causes and so much hostility and argument, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and sink into anxiety, numbness or despair.

In this one-day retreat, we will create a safe, open, nonjudgmental space where we can untangle what troubles us and clarify our unique contribution to collective healing in light of the Dharma. The day will alternate meditation with free writing from evocative prompts in order to cultivate an atmosphere of shared, deep reflection. We will read our freewrites aloud without comment or explanation, and practice deep listening with the intent of loosening the grip on our current view so that we can expand our perspective, as together we begin to co-create the world we want to live in.

All levels of writers and meditators are welcome. The depth of the practice depends on your willingness to deeply listen to yourselfand to others with openness, curiosity, and the intention to be changed by the exchange.

Please bring a notebook, a pen and three items (such as a headline, a photo, or an object) that represent:

1— something that breaks your heart

2—something that inspires you

3— your deepest values
