Welcome to the Wisdom River Institute
Led by senior students and community dharma leaders of the Sukhasiddhi community, the Wisdom River Institute represents a new direction for Sukhasiddhi–a new “stream” of Buddhist teaching, designed to meet the needs of a broad range of people, from new spiritual seekers and beginners to those interested in how to apply Buddhist principles to the challenges of everyday life in the world. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or merely curious, we hope you will join us at one of these Wisdom River events.
Monday Evening Meditation: Opening the Gate
Opening the Gate is a weekly, community oriented meditation group. It is open to everyone who would like to enjoy the support of a practice environment that is not only beautiful but also energized with a feeling of harmony, peace, kindness and warmth. Coming together in small groups, whether you are new to meditation or a long time practitioner, is a simple, yet powerful way to experience connection and community.
Every week after the meditation, there is a brief discussion of how to integrate your own practice into daily activities; off the cushion and into your home, your work, your life. We welcome community members from all traditions and paths. Opening the Gate is free of charge and there is no need to pre-register.
Wisdom River Sundays
Wisdom River Sundays are a monthly opportunity to join the Sukhasiddhi community for a rich and lively morning of group meditation, discussion and good company.
Led by senior members of the Sukhasiddhi community, each Wisdom River Sunday will begin with simple meditation instructions and a period of quiet meditation. Then we’ll have a teaching and conversation on topics of relevance to anyone wishing to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, as well as more compassionate ways of relating to themselves and the world.
Join us Sunday, September 9th from 10-12 for Recovery with Wisdom: Reclaiming our Innate Joy – an introduction to wisdom approaches to addiction recovery, learn about the neuro-scientific efficacy of meditation to assist in recovery and hear personal stories of how this has helped others.
And see our calendar for future dates and topics.
We have all suffered from Life’s problems: trauma, loss, grief and many other painful experiences that have covered over our innate goodness, preventing us from feeling the happiness that is our birthright. Many of us have taken up addictive behaviors and compulsions in attempts to fill in the empty places inside where the pain has taken hold.
Wisdom teachings guide us towards satisfying our urgent desire towards Wholeness: recovering our natural state, feeling good about ourselves and others, coming to know this world that we live in is perfect just as it is. We seek a better way, and in that seeking find others on this path of aspiration and accomplishment of knowing our innate goodness as a fact of life.
Please join us on Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8:15 pm, starting on Sept. 19, for Wisdom Recovery – ongoing group experiences of finding this path to goodness and happiness through recovering our natural state of being. We shall be sharing our stories, looking within through meditative practices and supporting each other on our journey to find our True Natures. No previous meditation experience is necessary. Please come and discover the preciousness of your existence in the here and now of group work.
