The Seven Point Mind Training, or Lojong, is a practice that is central to the bodhisattva path in which we train our minds to respond to daily circumstances with wisdom and compassion through the use of short, impactful aphorisms. These phrases help us to embrace every aspect of our experience and to recognize adversity as a means for spiritual development by prompting reflection, encouraging altruism, patience, and the dissolution of self-centeredness. They serve as practical reminders to infuse every moment with compassion, develop resilience in challenging situations, and foster a mindset dedicated to the well-being of all beings.

This year-long exploration of the lojong teachings is an excellent opportunity to focus on integrated these teachings into our daily lives. The Fall class series will be focused on Point 7 which provides guidance for navigating the complexities of these uncertain and divisive times with a heart and mind that are imbued with bodhicitta, understanding, and wisdom. Each class will include Tonglen meditation, teachings, experiential exercises, and opportunity for discussion and integration.

Tonglen is a practice of taking and sending that helps us to our hearts and recognize our interconnection with all beings, through taking the suffering of others, transforming it, and sending love and compassion in return. It is closely associated with the Mind Training teachings and helps us to recognize the vast capacity of our heart to hold the suffering of the world in compassion.
