Please join us to learn about Sukhasiddhi Foundations’ Service Project in support of the Buddhist Prison Ministry’s innovative program to bring access to the dharma to those in prison. Learn how you can get involved as a volunteer homework buddy/mentor as this program expands into prisons throughout the United States.
It all began in the bowels of San Quentin's Death Row with the altruistic intention of one "condemned" man's heart to share the fruits of the dharma he had experienced with other inmates in other prisons. It is also an opportunity to celebrate together the power of the fuel of Bodhicitta! By taking the teachings that Susan taught on Death Row and turning them into workbooks that others could use to study, the Buddhist Prison Ministry took form. During the first year, as the program’s growth began to skyrocket, Susan reached out to Sukhasiddhi Foundation to ask for volunteers to help with the overwhelming response for homework feedback. This led to several senior Sukhasiddhi students signing on to assist. Over time, as new programs were created and re-designed, more volunteers signed up. So, in 2024, Susan and Palden agreed that it was time to 'formalize' our relationship. This is what we wish to share and celebrate on this evening.
You will get a sneak peek at our offerings, hear from our volunteers how life changing this work has been, hear testimony from some of the incarcerated participants, and come to understand how the fastest growing sangha in the US is behind bars, as well as how you can participate in spreading the dharma in some of the world's darkest places.
On a personal level, Palden and Susan are also deeply happy to see this as one of the fruits of our over 43 years of friendship. We are delighted to share this with you.
